Stoner's Speed Shop Black Cadillac
Long Black Cadillac
Pick any genre of music from the last 50 years or more and you will hear a song about a Cadillac. Johnny Cash, Dwight Yoakam, Springsteen, Stray Cats, Vanilla Ice, Outkast and on and on. Some are pink, some are white but a lot of them are black, Rosanne Cash sang about one, heck Carrie Underwood sang about two of them!
Coming in at 225 inches long and 80 inches wide in 1960, not everyone’s garage back in the day could handle one of these beasts. I have vivid memories of Grandpa’s various Cadillacs and going to the Elks Club for shrimp night on Tuesdays. It seemed as long as bus to any kid back in the day. And those doors had to have weighed as much as a bus.
Fortunately, Blake Stoner with Stoner’s Speed Shop in Hudson Iowa had a long enough shop to tackle this sled. Stoner’s usually does patina trucks that are slammed on the ground, the exterior is left weathered, modern driveline and suspensions, and updated interiors for added comfort. Blakes repeat customer Al Romanini struck up a deal for this 13,103 original mile 1960 Cadillac Coupe Deville after a few beverages at a show a while back.
Untouched and OG (Original Gangster) as Blake puts it, he didn’t have to do much to this beast. “Not much” meaning removing the original 390 and installing an LS3 with an LS Classic top half to replicate the old school look. Beefing up the suspension some to make it float even more than the battleship already does. A modern stereo system, custom one of a kind Dakota Digital gauges and a few other minor touches.
Paint is original with a light buff in a few spots, interior is original right down to the factory A/C even. A custom center console was fabricated to replicate the interior theme. Some massive 20” Detroit Steel wheels with Caddy center caps finish off the sinister look that would make the Rat Pack proud to wheel up in front of the Sands in Vegas and enjoy an evening in Sin City.
